St Chad's Day
...was a really awesome day!!!! XD

So the story behind St Chad's Day is that about two days ago i mentioned to Oliver that I was really looking forward to the 2nd of March and that he should be expecting a present ^-^ he, being the awesomely silly person that he is panicked and immediately went onto Wikipedia to search the 2nd of March and came to the conclusion that we were celebrating the church of England's St Chad's Day. I immediately told him of my plans to sow broad beans on the Lemon Scented Lawns beneath a radiant Union Jack and of course he didn't believe me and bugged me for the next few days to tell him what was going on. In reality, today is exactly one month since an awesome scavenger hunt which he organised in order to ask me out (more details of scavenger hunt in a later post) :3

So anyway, his constant bugging me to tell him what was going on actually made me believe he'd forgotten (which I actually hoped he had so that i could tease him about it later :P) and so when I arrived at the Flats this morning I wasn't expecting very much at all. So I open the door to his room and... a huge bunch of roses were waiting for my on his chair ^-^ I was so surprised I immediately told him he sucked for fooling me so completely :P many thankyous were later exchanged ^-^

After presents were done we went to the Main Dining Hall to meet up with Khanat and Owen to go to Clayton Town for Monday Night Movies dinner shopping. Spent way too long in Coles trying to decide what to get and Khanat finally made the decision to get Chicken Nibbles and Garlic Bread. Then it was back to uni for my first lecture of the year... Property A!!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!

The lecture wasn't as bad as I expected; we spent about the firt half hour distinguishing between the 'lay people's perception of property' and the 'lawyer's perception of property'... apparently for lawyers, 'property' isn't the OBJECT of ownership but the RIGHTS attached to an INTEREST in the object... *mind explodes* @.@ But anyway, I made fairly good notes and actually got something out of the lecture and didn't fall asleep so it's all good ^-^

After lecture it was to the Den for food, meet up with Olivehead and Khanat, and later Owen, then bumming around until Movie Night time :D

Movie Night (Week 1)

In attendance: Khanat, Owen, Catie, Oliver, Ash, Yvonne, Celine, Damien and Me ^-^

So this week's movie night wasn't really a MOVIE night coz everyone got so caught up with playing SingStar that we didn't have time for the movie. We worked our way through Disney, Legends, Disney again, Party Hits and 90s. Dinner occurred at some stage in between Disney (2) and Party Hits (i think...) and washing up came afterwards. It was a whole heap of fun and many laughs were had. Also methinks Pedro's memory card is dead from the amount of playbacks we saved on it :P

And nooooooooooooooow... special mentions!!!! XD

SingStar Disney
Khanat and Ash to be commended for their awesome rendition of Circle of Life :P ...I've never heard anything quite so awesomely bad in my life :P Ash perhaps ha a slight advantage since he was pretty much singing the same line over and over but nevertheless it was very well done considering it made no sense to any of us :P

Owen and Ash to be commended on their rendition of Kiss the Girl ^-^ I'm not sure that anyone knew all the words but it didn't matter coz we were all laughing hard enough to poopie in our pants :P Owen's deep manly voice made up for Ash's 'I've just been kicked in the balls' falsetto (sp?) and the final 'YAYAYAYAAAAAAAAA!!!!!' was especially epic XD

SingStar Legends
Oliver managed to beat me in singing 'Imagine'... not sure how he did it... but seriously.... well done... i really mean it... :P

Can't remember what else was sung in Legends so moving on tooooooooo...

SingStar Party Hits
Catie is awesome for singing Hook Me Up with me even though she hates the song :P

Mambo No. 5... I recall Ash singing it... and then everybody took over so I’m not sure what happened there... but meh it was a lot of fun ^-^

so... moving on...

SingStar 90s
Ash's rapping for Love Shack was bloody impressive ^-^ I had a bit (a lot) less success with the girl part coz i didn't know any of the words :P

Pedro and Ash made me wanna cry when they sang Achey Breaky Heart... I’m sure everyone else felt the same way :P my ears and mind have been scarred by an oversized mullet...

Damien and Ash's 'U Can't Touch This' was absolutely fantastic :D their rap meter not only made it to the green but stayed there for most of the song :D awesome job guys!!!

'Bitch' was sung awesomely by Catie who has an awesome awesome voice ^-^

Ash and I sang Movin' On Up and it was much much fun :D

Celiney Beany and I sang Torn... while everybody was dancing in the background T-T I tried to look away so that i wouldn't laugh through the entire song but they were EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! T-T

Owen's awesomely deep manly voice once again smashed Nick Cage and Kylie Minogue's 'Where the Wild Roses Grow' :D methinks we should get him to sing that song every time we play singstar just because his voice is so incredibly manly :3 I don't think I did too badly singing Kylie's part either ^-^

Oliver got his arse handed to him on a plate by me when we had a sing off to Savage Garden's 'I Want You' :D YEEEEEEEAH!!!!!!!!!!!! XD

Catie and Damien's Zombie was mighty impressive, both of them getting a score in the high 8000's :D

Nat racked up the highest score of the evening; 9100 points singing Barbie Girl :P (HELLS YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH!!!!!!!! XD)

and last but not least....

Khanat and Pedro did a highly disturbing yet memorable strip tease to Ash and my rendition of 'I Touch Myself'... thanks guys... my eyes are still burning... also Khanat gave up halfway through coz apparently he was being upstaged by Pedro :P ...someone please tell me why I'm dating that guy.... =/

anyhoo, that pretty much wraps up Movie Night for Week 1 ^-^ hope to see more people there next week!!!! ^-^ YAY FOR SHAMELESS ADVERTISING!!!!! XD

Tali's (not so) Secret Vice...
Ok so everyone who knows me will know that I am practically perfect in every way ^-^ I mean come on, the awesome hair... the great sense of fashion... the fantastic personality... not to mention that I am just so utterly and completely adorable!!!! XD

So let us forget about the fact that I have an extremely unhealthy addiction to Bubble Tea and sushi, spend money faster than the Mint can print it and that the entire first paragraph of this blog post was a complete lie :P

But aside from bubble tea gluttony and an unquenchable greed for cute and pointless things, there exists within this body (which simply exudes charm, wit and grace) another vice which not many people but only the whole whole world knows about. I am talking, ladies and gents, about my addiction to Purikura (sticker photos)!!! ^-^

Yes, it is true. Every time I am in the city, even if it's for a boring Law event (such as tonight), I simply MUST get a set of purikura with whoever I'm with.

So... tonight's events...

Met up with Pedro at the SE Flats at around 4:30 after which we made a mad dash to my parents' office to catch a lift to Box Hill. From Box Hill we trained into the city and made our way to the Monash Law Chambers for the Durban Review Forum. Got there a bit late (about 10 mins) and spent the next hour and a half listening to various speakers talk about the upcoming Durban Review Conference in April. I won't go into detail on that or u'll all keyboardface... it should be sufficient simply to show how Pedro spent the time we were there...

In between taking notes and drawing rocketshipsin my notepad, I managed to discreetly scrawl this cutie on the back of Pedro's hand...

photocat.jpg

After the forum, we made out way to Photoworld where we spent an hour checking out the purikura machines ^-^ we finally found one that took awesome sparkley ones and proceeded to have our souls stolen by the machine ^-^ here is the outcome...

this one got a bit stuffed when I tried scanning because the sparkliness reflected the light from the scanner too well... :(

pedro-purikura-6.jpg

the border of this one is stuffed by sparkly too... :(

this one suggests a method to mute the Scent of Pedro... not sure how effective it is...

And my favourite...

A Belated Valentine's...
So as alot of ppl know, i got pretty screwed over by my work where Valentine's Day was concerned and as a result was forced to celebrate it a day late. Not that I'm complaining mind you coz I had an AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWESOME day!!!! ^-^

Drove down to the South East Flats to meet Pedro at around 12:30, with aforementioned offering of chocolates nicely wrapped in a box and blue ribbon ^-^ Here is a pic coz Pedro insisted on taking a photo before he opened it :P

15-02-09_1255.jpg

Said offering was opened with gusto as we made a mad dash to Chaddy to catch the 1:10 screening of 'He's just not that into you'. Offering was described as 'brilliant and godlike' which made me happy ^-^

In return for apparently divine chocolates, the awesomeness below was given ^-^

15-02-09_1924.jpg

Tali is ecstatic about her new necklace as hshe has been looking for an old-fashoned key for a while ^-^ also she is extremely happy that Pedro remembered that she was looking for a charm for her choker ^-^ and now..... YAY CLOSE-UPS!!!!! XD

15-02-09_1926.jpg

hmmzor... and now we get into the movie :D

'He's just not that into you' was a fantastic movie with just the right amount of comedy to balance out the romance. The storyline was pretty awesome; kinda along the lines of 'Love Actually' and the movie earned extra points coz it had Drew Barrymore and Scarlet Johansson :D although more of Drew Barrymore was very much necessary :(

Only annoying thing about the movie was the girls sitting behind us who were talking and giggling like they were afraid no one could hear them... also the random stupid kids in the front who yelled out "WOAH!!! AWESOME!!!!" when Jennifer Connelly smashed a huge mirror on the ground... which was a shame coz it was a pretty cool mirror but she got a better one in the end so it's all good ^-^

anyhoo... tired now so gonna stop blogging :) to sign off, here are some pics of Oliver's christmas present last year ^-^ i made the outfit myself :3

When rich is TOO rich...
No I'm not talking about Khanat... >.>

So I taste-tested one of the chocolate truffes that I made yesterday and... MY GOD THEY WERE RICH!!!! @_@ It actually took me a while to finish just one truffle, partly because I'd made them the size of mini cannonballs but mostly because the combination of a rich dark chocolate ganache (made with double cream no less...) and a dark chocolate coating nearly made my tastebuds explode :S My only consolation is that I didn't put the whole thing in my mouth; no doubt something horrible would have happened, e.g. my head imploding. Also I have reassessed the need for arsenic... and people say that chocolate won't kill you... @.@

Anyhoo, I've never been a fan of rich chocolate anything and I followed the instructions to the letter so it's probably (hopefully T-T) not as bad as I think... I remember making a cake with Max last year and when it came to eating it, I really struggled to finish my slice coz it was exceedingly rich and had brandy in it :S He and his mum both had seconds tho :P maybe it has something to do with my asian genes... kinda like my extremely low tolerence of milk, something which Pedro never ceases to find amusing to tease me about :( well maybe I'll have the last laugh when his love of chocolate makes him OD on my truffles... MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! >:D Final verdict tomorrow I guess :P hopefully he won't end up too sick to go see that movie... >.>

Up sh*t creek with nothing but a wooden spoon...
bahahahaha interpret that how u will :P

Ok so as everyone knows, it's Valentine's Day tomorrow; the most shamelessly exploited commercial non-holiday of the year. HURRAH FOR CAPITALISM!!!! That said, I have absolutely no qualms with celebrating Valentine's Day, primarily because every year I'm swamped by an influx of chocolates and gifts from secret admirers and it usually takes me about a month to work my way through it all!!!! HELLS YEAH!!!! ^-^v

...............................................................

Ok you got me!!! That was a lie. But really, Valentine's Day is a perfect excuse for gift-giving and this year, being the genius that I am, I decided to try making my own chocolates... not so great an idea :P

So everyone who knows me knows that I can't cook and that while my parents were away on holiday in Hong Kong in the December-January just gone, I survived mainly on smoked salmon sandwiches and pasta... which Pedro helped me cook :P One or two days I had a stroke of luck and managed to produce something which was a bit more than just edible... but then there were the days where I horribly burned the cauliflower and such like :(

Anyhoo... today was spent trying to make Strawberry and Chocolate Hearts and Chocolate Truffles. I was going to make Chocolate-coated Strawberries too but I ran out of time :(

So!!!! First up...

Strawberry and Chocolate Hearts
The idea was to make a Strawberry and Chocolate ganache and coat it with a layer of tempered dark chocolate (in case anyone was wondering, tempering is the thing that u do to make ur chocolate nice and shiny and finished looking ^-^). What happened was that I didn't leave the ganache in the fridge long enough to make it easy to shape so I took the lazy option and just rolled them into truffles :P

In the end I ended with an extremely large batch of truffles, half of which were plain and the other half strawberry flavoured :S ... then came the coating with chocolate part... DUNDUNDUN!!!!

Methinks that whoever said pandas don't need dippig utensils is a silly silly man because a proper chocolate dipping thingy would have made my life so much easier... T-T also a properly chocolate thermometer would have been nice (tempering is a very exact and delicate process) but apprnetly coles doesn't sell them... who would have thunk it?

So anyway... here's a picture of the (kinda) finished product (was still waiting for the chocolate to fully solidify) taken with webcam coz I can't find my cammy...

Chocolate Truffles

...hopefully it didn't turn out TOO attrociously and that a certain someone doesn't get food poisoning or birdflu or something... ^-^' ...actually what am I saying? I should have laced it with arsenic just for fun!!! *smacks head* maybe next time...

Cleaning Up the Kitchen
aaaaaahhhh!!!! My favourite part of cooking!!! If that were true would that make me some kind of kitchen-dwelling masochist? o_O Seriously though, I cannot even begin to express how much it sucks to have to clean up after i cook :( u'd think that my hatred for cleaning would teachme not to make a mess but nooooooo... chocolate and icing sugar ALL OVER THE KITCHEN COUNTER!!!!! Icing sugar on my laptop which i was using to look at recipes (thankfully not alot)... sink full of chocolate covered dishes and utensils (coz i insist on using a new spoon/fork/whatever when dealing with different ingredents so as not to cross-contaminate... kinda pointless since it all gets mixed in together anyway... AND i'm not very good at 'cleaning as I go' :P) ...several different sized, chocolatey mixing bowls shrewn across the icing sugar frosted counter - i shook the icing sugar shaker too enthusiastically and it exploded - and when my mum came home after I'd cleaned everything up in an effort to hide the fact that I'd been making Valentine' Day chocolates (an attempt which failed coz she found the last of the truffles which I hadn't gotten around to wrapping up yet on my desk) she pointed out that somehow I'd managed to get chocolate on my glasses :S

So in conclusion... whoever said that cooking is a science is silly... why? Because if science was anything like my cooking my house would have gone up in a nuclear explosion long ago and my Google Maps Street View would look something like this...

house mushroom

hence I prefer to view cooking as an extremely messy art project...

NO GUARENTEED SUCCESS, BUT ALL GUARENTEED FUN!!!! XD
